Your first solo day with the baby
A simple game plan for the first full day where it’s just you and them.
You will be fine. The goal for day one isn’t a perfect day — it’s a fed, clean, sleeping-sometimes baby and a dad who’s still upright at dinner.
Night before
- Ask for the routine written down: feed times, nap windows, what settles them
- Prep bottles / feeding gear and lay out the next two outfits
- Write the pediatrician’s number and your partner’s number on the fridge
During the day
- Get outside once. A walk resets both of you.
- Eat when the baby eats. Drink water.
- Keep a quick log — feeds, diapers, naps. It answers “is this normal?” later.
- Crying you can’t fix is allowed. Put the baby down somewhere safe and take five.
Dad tip: Lower the bar on everything except safety. The dishes can wait.
